This patient case involved comprehensive care to a patient who sought to regain a smile that has been lost due to many years of not seeing a dentist. This dental treatment was a journey that involved many changes to the treatment plan and involved multidisciplinary dental and medical care.
Comprehensive dental care is essential for restoring patients’ oral health, function, and aesthetics. In this clinical presentation, I will discuss the comprehensive oral rehabilitation of a patient who presented with a chief concern of restoring occlusion function and improving aesthetics and overall oral health.
A new patient presents with complete edentulism on the maxillary left quadrant as well as an additional missing canine in the esthetic zone of the lower-left mandibular quadrant as a result of trauma from an accidental fall. An implant-supported removable partial denture (RPD) for the upper-left quadrant and a single implant crown to replace #22, turned out to be the best solution.
Restoration of a patient’s collapsed bite due to severe bruxism presents a unique challenge in that the neuromusculature has adapted to a certain VDO and thus the patient must be trained to adapt to a new bite.
The success of removable partial dentures relies on the health of the remaining dentition. I also wish to highlight the emotional journey my patient went through as I took him from a disease state to an edentulous state, and finally to health with dental prostheses.
